On a different topic, I would like to see our website used to effectively communicate with the membership. Communicate with our members currently on layoff, communicate with our retirees, communicate with all of our members about the things that are important to all of us.
Toward that end, I need to know what you'd like to see more of, less of - what IS important to you when you visit YOUR CEP Union Local 1119 website? I recently received the suggestion that the shift calendar should be online - I'll be adding that to our Calendar which currently displays the General and Executive meetings only. I was also informed that the list of Shop Stewards was out of date - as soon as I can obtain an up-to-date list, I'll post it.

Here are some links to resources for union workers (and those interested in joining a union):
This first resource is the LabourStart awarded site, UE. They are a USA based union so keep that in mind but the information is relevant nonetheless. They have great reads for everyone in the general membership (see their article on Fatigue and Shift Work to learn how your "circadian rhythm" is affected by ) as well as officers (Shop Stewards may want to review articles like Avoiding the Pitfalls). This is the index of their resource articles: UE - Information for Workers.
Next is the New Unionism Network. This article Defining Unions gives the basics on Unions and their memberships. Again, there are multiple resources here.

Read The Guardian - January 2009. Still putting the finishing touches on the PDF index - the calendar of events is finished and at any time you can find out when the next General or Executive meeting is. You can simply hover your cursor over the highlighted dates to see the event for that day, or click on the events for a complete listing of all the upcoming meetings. |
